Day 170: Pilates and a discovery

Good afternoon šŸ™‚

This week saw a welcome return to Pilates, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though an annoying know-it-all new member of the class started telling Sarah the instructor how she could improve the class. Technically she was giving feedback, and technically it was only me who was cross not the instructor who seemed to welcome feedback, but I was cross for her and for me as the person involved was suggesting ways to improve an explanation because at least one person wasn’t doing it, then gestured to where I was standing during the class…I was the only person there so she had to have been talking about me grrr! I would like to be able to go to a class without thinking that other members of it were judging how I do things… The instructors (either this one or the one who took the class before) don’t think I had a problem or they would have mentioned it because that is what they do so grrr!

Ok…that was more of a rant than I meant it to be, and I might be being paranoid because I tend towards that sometimes, but…even if she wasn’t talking about me, she was talking about someone, which still means she was judging other members of the class instead of getting on with her own stuff. So my point is still valid! Ok…Sorry, rant over šŸ˜€

single-leg-bridgeDespite all that my Pilates class was excellent šŸ™‚ Ā I am really beginning to notice the difference in my core strength. I finally decided to take the plunge and try the single leg version of the bridge exercise, You start off with both legs down as normal, raise one up bent…then straighten it, then lower it until it is parallel to the other one (like the picture) then put it back down on the floor. It is blooming hard and I have been avoiding it for ages, but yesterday I tried it and I could do it 8 times šŸ˜€ I know this is progress, because in one of my first PT sessions Matt asked me to lift one leg off the floor while I was doing a bridge and I fell straight over when I tried it šŸ˜€ woohoo Progress!!

THe rest of the class was, as usual an excellent way of stretching and lengthening while at the same time strengthening muscles šŸ™‚ I left feeling energised and less achy than I expected after running two days in a row for the fist time in weeks šŸ˜€

IMG_2676[1]So energised in fact, that I decided to go for a walk and investigate a possible new place to run. I didn’t want to run there until I had walked round once. SO I set off to a place called Jubilee Fields which is a sports ground in the small town a couple of miles from my house. It has a “trim trail” around the edge. This turns out to be a 1.7km path with obstacles and apparatus around it that you can do exercises on if you like! I didn’t try all of them, but I did try some…

I didn’t actually go all the way over the cargo net…but I will one day…

I think it will be a nice place to run, unless there is too much sport going on when it might be over run by small children which is terrifying or adults which is annoying. But I am definitely going to try out a run or two there, and possibly even a run or two with exercises and whatnot thrown in šŸ™‚ It will add an extra dimension to my working out. I might even learn to do a pull up as they have pull up bars…but I think it might take me a while…

Yes! That’s what I was referring to as a Par Course at the sports fields near my place in Vegas. I finally made it over the top of the ladder thing (equivalent to your cargo net) the last time I was here in October. Felt so good to overcome that fear. (And it was fear, not difficulty that prevented me previously). I still can’t do the pull up , but I did manage a few rungs of the monkey bars. šŸ™‚
