Day 201: Standing Henry…

Good day!

Yesterday was Wednesday, and by now, we all know what that means, don’t we?

It was Dancing Day πŸ˜€

And more than that…it was the first dancing practice of the new year which means it was awesome! Awesome because I haven’t danced since boxing day…almost 2 weeks!! That is too long!

As you can probably tell I enjoyed getting back to dancing, and as such I danced everything I possibly could, andΒ completelyΒ forgot to take any photos of it! SO just in case you are getting morris dancing withdrawal…I will add some in from Boxing day πŸ™‚

As it was the first practice of the year, and we were not practicing for a story, it was the ideal opportunity to get some good teaching in. So we spent the evening concentrating mainly on teaching Our Henry and Standing Stones. We had all the new and newish dancers involved (amongst whom I am apparently no longer classed, at least not all the time…) It was entertaining and they got the hang of it really well, especially considering the two dancers are pretty similar and even seasoned dancers get them mixed up…

in fact… going straight from Standing Stones to Our Henry cause me to forget the chorus and almost clout Judith around the head (sorry!).

The huge advantage of the teaching of dances is that I get the chance to dance them in positions that I don’t normally dance them in πŸ™‚ In fact, with less confusion than I expected I danced Our Henry in 4 different places!

Not at the same time, no. That would be silly.

I even danced it on the other side of the set to normal…twice! It confused me a lot while I was walking it through, but once we started dancing, it was fine πŸ˜€ this is definitely progress! πŸ˜€

I stuck to the same spot in standing stones mind you, different place do different things in that.

All in all it was awesome and there was a lot of dancing, some walking stuff through, and some dancing only bits of dances to make sure people got the hang of it πŸ˜€ and he dances I did were:

Maiden CAstle
Standing Stones (x3 + walks + bits)
Our Henry (x4 + walks + bits)
Spank the Monkey
Fanny Frail

So all in all day 201 complete πŸ˜€

Are you seeing a big difference in your energy level dancing Sam? I know initially you commented on the improvements. I wonder if that’s continued?

It really has improved! I fact I noticed it last night… I thought I might have even for fitter sing before Christmas…possibly because of more running which is great for cv and endurance fitness πŸ™‚
