Day 207: apparently it is only me…

Apparently it is only me that gets to do (is persuaded to do?) the crazy gymnastics strength exercises in their PT sessions…

Apparently I am the only one who agrees to them…

I think that is pretty awesome πŸ˜€ I would far rather do something that is hard work but interesting and fun than hard work and dull…or not easy and dull…

In case that introduction didn’t give you a clue, I had PT yesterday morning! I heartily approve of PT on a Tuesday, it makes Tuesdays into a much better day πŸ™‚

After a warm up on the AMT (which stands for adaptive motion trainer by the way) we attacked the trx and started off with a version of mountain climbers where you put one foot in the trx band and the other one on the floor, and hold yourself in plank position, then you move the foot that is not in the trx towards you as you would in a normal mountain climber. So you basically end up supporting your self on your hands and one trx strap with your foot. All this without falling over!

After this, I did the same exercise, but instead of moving my foot forwards towards me, I had to move it forward and sideways towards the foot in the trx band. again without falling down..

Following this, was a way to make trx pikes even harder…just in case they were not already hard! I had to straddle my legs outwards as I came up into the pike…

Then one leg squats followed by a forward leany thing combo (still with the trx)

Then Muscle ups followed by pull ups from squat, but from squat on my tiptoes so I cant use my legs too much.

A lot of this was warm up apparently…after which we adjourned to the dance studio where the bars were lurking. they really were lurking, hidden behind the stereo!

On these I did press ups, battle rams, mountain climbers, the tuck-y jumpy swing through thingy that I did last week ( IΒ have just discovered from the magic of google that these are called parallette pass throughs) …which I did better this week (yeay πŸ™‚ I got through in one jump and back in two πŸ™‚ then things called reverse or possible inverted shoulder presses. for these, you hold the bar and stand close to it on tiptoes with your legs straight, then lower yourself down as far as possible and back up, without dropping yourself on your head! It is like a pike press up, but with your hands on bars so you can go down lower.

After all this, it was time for thai boxing, lots of punching and kicking combos with knees thrown in πŸ™‚ lots of fun as always and exactly the sort of thing you want to do after a lot of shoulder strength exercises… Did that sound sarcastic…

ok… you know I loved it really and any complaining is mainly flannel!

The last thing we did was return to the gym for hand stands and head stands, well tripod headstands. these were much more successful than last time, I could actually balance this time! now I am working towards freestanding headstands!

Come to think of it we might have done head and handstands before Β we went into the dance studio…but that is not the point really… I did do them πŸ˜€

Then we were all done bar the stretching πŸ˜€ It was pretty awesome!

This was not the end for the day, doing all this before 8 am left me with the need to do something else before the end of the day.

walk in the dark…not the easiest thing to photograph…

Ok…I am not that crazy, I just went for a walk! I walked around the park, in the dark, for about 45 mins πŸ™‚ it was enough to get my legs moving but not so much that I broke πŸ™‚

And that was it for the day πŸ™‚

It was a good day πŸ™‚

Love how Matt keeps pushing you. Keeps it fresh AND prevents you from plateauing.

I have been doing some full-length online videos from a website called Fitness Blender (fitnessblender.com) and I am unbelievably sore. Funny to see that stuff you wouldn’t think challenging makes you so sore. I guess because it’s working different muscles in different ways. I’ve done a couple of their HIIT workouts and I like them a lot as an at-home option for when I can’t get to the gym. Leaving for Vegas in a few hours and staying there for 6 weeks this time, so I have a feeling when I’m not hiking the mountains I’ll be doing a lot of makeshift at home stuff. πŸ™‚

I love it too, I really like all the different stuff we do πŸ˜€

ooh I will look up the website!

It is always the things that look simple that kill you…burpees look pretty simple after all :-S

having a good supply of work out at home ideas is very useful! especially if you are somewhere other than home πŸ™‚ or possibly at a different home…

I have a feeling you are going to spend a while hiking in the mountains πŸ˜€

I am jones’ing for those mountains the way a crackhead needs his next hit! πŸ™‚

Reading some of your workouts make me feel like I am not doing nearly enough…

WOW! What a workout! Inspires me to get it moving!

    • Ice_Badger says :

πŸ˜€ thank you I am glad you liked it.

Just getting going is the hardest step (sort of…) I can do things now that I couldn’t even think about trying 6 months ago!

You aren’t the only one to does the crazy stuff. I do too. I often give my trainer a look to say “you want me to do what?!” Like doing the plank with my hands on an upside down bosu and my feet on a medicine ball! I actually collapsed trying that one until my trainer held my feet.

I wish I could get to the gym to exercise and finish before 8 am. I have to wait until my son has gone to school before I can even consider going out so then I leave it an extra hour to avoid the rush hour traffic. That said, 10 am isn’t a bad time in the gym. Or it won’t be once the gym settles down again after the January newbies have been through and 90% have given up.

Keep up with the crazy, and not so crazy, days.

    • Ice_Badger says :

I am glad it is not just me πŸ˜€

I have the look, I always make Matt demonstrate, just to check it is actually possible!

I can only manage the gym early when I am actually meeting someone!

  5. Caitlin says :

Oh, you DO do the crazy scary stuff on TRX (refer comment on your TRX post). Wahhhh! They terrify me haha. Good job to you for not freaking out :-p I need to do it when there’s no one around, so if I fall, no one can laugh at me!
