Day 326: Finally forsaking the fitbit

As you may or may not know, the Fitbit Force was recalled by the

fitbit force

company in February this year. It had been causing skin reactions in some people.

I ignored this, assuming it couldn’t be that bad.

After 2 months of progressively worsening itchy wrists I have finally decided that I should send the thing back and take advantage of the money back promise!

By decided…I mean caved i to pressure from everyone who sees my wrist and tells me that I am crazy for still wearing the thing!

ok...I should have given in earlier...

ok…I should have given in earlier…

apparently things that are good for your health and fitness are not meant to do that to you.

They are not meant to make your wrist that itchy and sore!

Note that I say I am caving in…but I haven’t actually taken the thing off completely…I am currently wearing it on the other wrist…

I promise to put it in the recall packet soon…I Promise!!

I am not giving up on tracking things by the way, I have dug out my old pedometer until my replacement watch type tracker arrives…

I’ll tell you all about it when it does πŸ˜€

As for exercise, yesterday, I was feeling somewhat unmotivated, and a little bit like a lump…I felt like I was kidding myself about the whole fitness thing…

Looking back at it, the first thing I did in the evening, proves categorically that this fitness thing is working…

I climbed up my scaffolding onto my roof!

me on scaffolding..and such a pretty view from the top!

me on scaffolding..and such a pretty view from the top!

look…I climbed up great big ladders onto the scaffolding and onto the roof!

A year ago I wouldn’t even have tried!

3 weeks ago I wouldn’t even climb the ladder into the loft!

Until yesterday I had never been in my own loft, even though climbing up the loft ladder inside the house would have been Β lot easier than climbing up the scaffolding ladders and going in through the door on the roof…

We are having a loft conversion by the way, we don’t just have a door in our roof for fun..although it is quite fun!

isn’t the view from my roof pretty?

It will be better when the scaffolding has gone…

Well, as exciting as that was, it doesn’t count as exercise…

So I had to come up with something else.

I started by investigating the & min work out app I found the other day. It is similar to tabata but each cycle lasts 7 mins, there are 12 exercises that you do for 30 seconds each and you get 5 seconds rest between each exercise.

7 min app

7 min app

The work out gives you an option to do a work out, so the first time through I did that, bringing the cycle up to 9 mins

Every new exercise is demonstrated by a little guy on the screen with a clock that counts down to the end of the section. The “Original 7 min work out” consists of:
Jumping Jacks
Wall Sit
Push Ups
Abdominal Crunches
Step Ups
Triceps Dips
High Knees
Push up + rotation
Side Planks

It was reasonable but not terrible! So I did another one.

You get the option to set preferences and tell it how fit you think you are and the app will build you a customised work out. So I did a 7 min cycle customised work out…

This was harder, it included, spiderman press ups, hind press ups, full side planks, jumping jacks and other thing, that I have either forgotten or wiped from my mind!

It is a reasonable app for an occasional change, it stops you having to think about your work out all the time, and there are lots of combinations to choose from with multiple cycles if you like πŸ™‚

After all this I did squat challenge Day 13:
50 wide squats
50 standard squats
50 plie squats
10 low pulse

Not as bad as day 11…

After this I threw in some double kettle bell swings and clean and presses for good measure!

And with that…

Sam, just get yourself a Fitbit Flex (the model down from the Force). It’s just as good and contains no nickel, therefore no allergic reaction.

p.s. the Day 14 thing on the toes was just cruel. my calves felt about ready to burst open.

Sam, send it back, send it back, send it back! Your wrist is not meant to be that colour!! (Nice flower by the way πŸ™‚ ) What app did you use for the 7 minute thing, is it an ipod/pad/phone one? It looks like fun!
