My Bouncy Adventure…

It occurs to me that over two months has passed by and I have not yet told you about my experiences in london with great big springs on my feet.

yes, that is right..springs on my feet.

This was an exercise class, which involved wearing springy boots and bouncing around…these boots to be exact:

Slightly hard to photograph them on your own feet but you get the idea…

I know what you are thinking: “that is just an accident waiting to happen” yes, that was pretty much my first thought too… But it turned out less perilous than you might think…

The first challenge was putting them in and standing up…you are not sure where your centre of balance is going to be so it is good to have a wall handy for this procedure! Once I was up it took a remarkably short amount of time to get used to them. In no time at all we were striding around the changing room feeling so proud of ourselves for remaining upright!! The came the time when we had to venture out into the gym and make our way to the studio for the actual class…

This meant walking through the very busy gym…and up two steps…them at soon reminded us that these things were crazy falling over boots!!

Terrifying steps, and gym full of curious people negotiated we found ourselves in an exercise studio with a nice and enthusiastic teacher, she took us through the basic moves which included bouncing, bouncing taking legs in and out, bouncing from foot to foot and bouncing in different directions…

There was a lot of bouncing…

That was pretty much the whole class…Bouncing…as you might expect really!

The moves and coreography were akin to a cross between 1980s aerobics crossed with Zumba…which sounds awful… But it was all made a whole lot better by the bouncing and the springy feet!!

It was quite correographed which is ok, but it takes a few goes to get the patterns. However, if you get lost just keep bouncing!! πŸ˜€

I have to say it was a lot of fun, and I would probably go to another class or two if it wasn’t in that London at a time which meant I had to take half a days holiday to get to it!! If it was closer then it would stand a chance…it was fun and a pretty good workout πŸ˜€

Here is me at the end of the class being all selfie-y the woman in pink is the instructor, she was lovely!

365 take 2 Days 1-9

Good evening πŸ™‚

Here we have a summary of the first week (and two days) of the rebooted version of my 365 project. It has been a good week which has had two pretty dominant themes, bears and DOMS!

16th april

Saturday 16th April

Did I mention that I fed bears on my birthday? Well I did and it was awesome! and a side effect of bear feeding was lots of walking, and some chasing of a 7 yr old nephew πŸ™‚

17th april bedtime yoga

17th April

This was nice, I liked bedtime yoga it is relaxing and good not harsh and extra bendy!

18th april

18th April

Today was walking, faster than recently, lunchtime walk, good on many counts πŸ™‚ not least of which was I saw a fairly random set of rocks reclining on a garden chair in a river…

tue 19th

19th April

today was PT day, a day of squats, lots of squats, front squats, back squats, sumo squats… many squats! there was also some kettlebell swinging and to top it all off a set or 6 of sled pushing and pulling πŸ˜€ not only was this awesome, but it was the first leg training session in about 2 months and only about the 3rd since christmas due to two blooming annoying leg injuries! I could tell, from the end of the session and the shakiness of my legs, that I was going to really really ache!

20th april

20th April

good grief I was not wrong about the aches!! I had the sort of DOMS where I dreaded transitioning from standing to sitting, or sitting to standing, or going up stairs, or down stairs, or walking… It was the worst DOMS i have had Β in a long time!! Awesome though as I meant I had been working πŸ˜€ and I even managed to walk at lunchtime and hobble my way through 2 hours of dancing practice…I forgot to photograph the dancing though…

21st april

21st April

Thursday brought much more DOMS…my legs hurt a good deal more than I was expecting!! and this meant walking, slow walking but still walking for about 35 mins… It deefinitley counted because moving my legs at all was a booming struggle!! It had the added bonus of letting me see a little wren hopping around πŸ˜€

22nd april

22nd April

More yoga! I said I was going to incorporate it and I have been, my legs had recovered about 75% of their functionality after the leg day episode πŸ™‚ and I decided to work on improving my flexibility and did the yoga for beginners session that I did way back in January! I have to say, although easier, sitting cross legged is still not my comfort position of choice! Definitely improvement since the first time through though πŸ™‚

23rd april

23rd April

Yes, I am trying running *again*… So far I don’t hate it. I was being super cautious as the last two attempted runs this year have been closely followed by some form of super tight leg muscle / injury. This meant I went right back to basics and pretended I had not run before, I started with week 1 day 1 of my 10k trainer which involved 1 min run intervals. It was really quite doable, but not super easy, and my leg took an interval or two to decide whether or not it was going to rebel…luckily it decided to loosen off and fingers crossed it is still ok!

24th april

24th April

today was more walking, it was an 8km walk ( well two 4km walks) It was lovely to get out in the countryside with two lovely friends and just walk. I go quicker with other people too…or maybe it is just because it is not mid work day… whatever, it was an awesome walk along the eponymous Downs link path πŸ˜€

and that was the first week (+2 days) I look forward to bringing you the next 51 weeks of awesome activity πŸ˜€

New Years Resolutions!

Yes, I can totally make new years resolutions in April!!

Technically every day can be the start of a years worth of time, but that is not why I am choosing now.

I am making new years resolutions at the start of my own personal new year. My 41st year, the year in which my age is 40…

In case you hadn’t guessed, my 40th Birthday was recent…Saturday just passed to be exact. And it was blooming awesome!! if the rest of 40 lives up to the start of 40 then it is going to be a good age! It was so awesome because I got to feed bears!

this was where I met them…click on the picture to read about the bears!!

Yes…bears! and I fed them!! I wandered around in their enclosure (which is massive) and hid their breakfast in lots of different places so they can forage for it. At the same time i was doing this Mark was spreading jam on stuff so they can find it…yes, bears like jam…and marmalade too which is one of the most awesome things I have ever heard!!

Once we had done this we got to meet the bears and feed them peanuts!! they were behind a fence, but they came right up and took peanuts out of our hands!! Yes…massive brown bears taking peanuts out of my hand…they were so gentle!!! It was awesome!!!

I am still really over excited about it now!! (in case you can’t tell…the number of exclamation marks should give it away really…)

The whole experience of turning 40 has not really worried me and the bears made it so awesome that I forgot that I was supposed to be an adult now…

awesome timeHowever, it is a milestone and I decided to mark it by making some changes and getting back to some things I had forgotten about! I also decided that the only way to make the whole year of 40 as awesome as the first day of 40 was to take action and do things!!!

So this is what I am going to do this year:

  • Restart my 365 exercise project.
Project “fit Β enough to dance in a mask” worked fantastically well and i have slacked off recently, so I am now restarting the project and re naming it “project fit enough to continue dancing in a mask”
I will here and now commit to 30 mins of exercise Β / activity every day from my 40th birthday (16th April 2016) to my 41st birthday (16th April 2017…in case that wasn’t obvious) today is day 7 and it is looking good so far…
  • I will blog about it to keep myself accountable at least twice a week. This has the dual effect of keeping me accountable and making me find interesting exercises to do and new things to try so that I don’t write a really dull blog!
  • I am going to incorporate Yoga into my exercise regime as I learned during my 30 days of yoga that it is really beneficial and I actually enjoy it, who’d have thought it!!
  • I am going to lift more heavy stuff…because I love it and it is awesome
  • I am going to do something creative every week. I love doing creative things and have missed them recently so I am going to make more of an effort to do stuff even if it is only small stuff! I will write about it on my other blog, “Sam’s Art Journal”Β I may even post the links on here so you can see what else I get up to πŸ™‚

and that is it for now πŸ™‚ You know me I am fairly sure there will be challenges and some love/hate running musings along the way, but I am not putting to many restrictions on right now!

And just in case you have forgotten…

bears are awesome!!
